Local: The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma grants two weeks burial permission to residents

Senator Hope Uzodinma, governor of Imo State, has allowed those who are bereaved in the state to use two weeks to bury their dead, unsure of when the scourge of coronavirus will be reduced.

This was confirmed by the governor during a briefing on Friday at the Government House in Owerri.

He said, "I feel the cries and the pain of the people whose loved ones are in the mortuary. While we're still dealing with the coronavirus problem, I'm going to give you the chance to go and bury your loved ones who were in the mortuary.

"We are all mindful of the repeated calls from mortuary operators to pick up dead bodies. I therefore grant two weeks for burials.

Governor Uzodinma, however, frowned at the level of violation of government directives by the Imo people, expressing displeasure at the addition of index cases of coronavirus to the state.

He vowed to implement more stringent steps to limit the transmission of the virus if citizens were to disobey the government's directives.

In the meantime, he has instructed state security agents to improve monitoring at various national borders, ensuring that international travel remains banned in the state.
