Sports: Real Madrid, Bayern and Inter Milan to stage European Solidarity Cup in 2021

European Solidarity Cup will be staged in 2021 by Real Madrid, Bayern Munich in order to raise money for medical facilities in Italy and Spain.

Proceeds from the fixtures will be donated to medical facilities in Italy and Spain, two of the world’s worst-hit countries by the coronavirus pandemic.

The three teams will compete in a round-robin sequence, with Inter vs Bayern in Milan, Real vs Inter in Madrid and Bayern hosting Real in Munich.

The aim is “to send out a message of solidarity and fraternity to the people of Europe”, said a statement from Real Madrid.

The dates of the tournament have not been decided. The date would "rely on the calendar of the match and when football will be played again in front of the crowd," the clubs said.

Bayern is welcoming 5,000 patients, carers and doctors to the Allianz Arena for their fight against Real Madrid.

Nurses, carers and doctors, in particular, are doing an outstanding job for society at the moment, said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. We, the three clubs, want to show these heroes our appreciation, respect and gratitude.

Inter President Steven Zhang praised the great commitment of all healthcare workers and noted how essential it is to allow us look to the future.

He specified that this scheme will serve as appreciation and as well celebrate their work and at the same time send a message of unity and solidarity between nations.
