Tecnology: Google, Facebook extend work-from-home plans

Google and Facebook have instructed several workers to avoid working from home for the rest of the year as part of the tech giants' reaction to the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai told Google employees at a conference that his remote job strategy will be extended until 2021. According to the organization, any return to the office was supposed to be phased and paced.

The news came along with US media outlets that Facebook is now encouraging staff to work remotely for the remainder of this year. Facebook’s updated plan is to re-open offices in early July, but let people work from home if they prefer until 2021, according to reports.

Google workers who wish to report to their offices will be able to do so over the next month or two, with new health precautions over effect due to coronavirus issues, but most of the workforce will have to operate from home.
