CRIME UPDATES: fifty (50) people arrested for violating COVID-19 rules at nightclub in Ilorin

Fifty COVID-19 violators were arrested by the technical committee of Kwara State COVID-19 at a night club in Ilorin, the state capital.

According to the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee on COVID-19, Dr Femi Oladiji in a statement in Ilorin, they were arrested in the early hours of Saturday.

He said the operation was headed by the state chairman of the technical committee COVID-19, and the deputy governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi.

He said, "Around 1 am we got information that there were some people in a club inside Kwara hotels. Accompanied by me, the Deputy Governor and some security operatives raided the club and arrested so many boys and girls within 20 and 30 years.

"Around 2 am we took them to the quarantine center of the hajj camp. Overnight we made them comfortable, and we took their samples for COVID-19 early this morning.

"Their arrest which could lead to prosecution is to send out a signal that we cannot tolerate such behaviour.

"Thereafter, violations would attract strong government response," he added.

Dr. Oladiji insisted that nightcremains ban is in force to prevent further coronavirus spread.

He said the government will also "take appropriate action against any hotel owned by the Kwara state officials found to have authorized the violation of the existing ban to send a signal that such conduct will not be tolerated."
