President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique urged people residing in regions deemed at risk from the tropical storm approaching the country to vacate those regions.

According to the National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) of Mozambique, forecasts indicate that the tropical storm, called Chalane, could impact the coast of Mozambique on 29 or 30 December, affecting the provinces of Nampula, Zambezia and Sofala.

All over the country they are prepared and alert, but nobody is prepared for things like these because they are unpredictable situations in terms of damage. We will have to be careful and everyone in the risk areas better leave," said President Nyusi. The expected tropical storm will be the second to hit Mozambique in two years.

Cyclone Idai roared through the nation in 2019, killing about 1,000 persons, damaging property, and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless.

President Nyusi has called on Mozambicans not to be distracted by the new developments and forget about COVID-19, which has provided the nation with a huge health problem.
