Eleven coal miners abducted and murdered by unknown gunmen in Pakistan

Southwest Pakistan officials have said Sunday that 11 coal mining workers were abducted and murdered by unknown gunmen.

In Muchh, province of baluchistan, the largest, but least-populated of Pakistan's four provinces, 50 kilometers southeast of Quetta, provincial capital, a deadly overnight attack was unleashed.

Local sources also reported that some miners in a local hospital have also been critically wounded and treated.

A post-attack mobile video VOA received showed the slain workers were blindfolded with their hands tied behind their backs. The victims were said to be members of the minority Hazara Shi'ite community, which has come under attack from extremists in the past.

No-one immediately took responsibility for the attack.

Baluchistan often experiences attacks on security forces and people working on development projects.

Authorities are responsible for violence against Baluch rebels and other militant groups active in the province of Pakistan, which is rich in natural resources.

In the distant Harnai district of Baluchistan last week, militants raided a security outpost and killed at least seven paramilitary soldiers and wounded others.
