National Association of Nigerian Students warns ASUU against stopping resumption of universities
The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has urged the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, not to stop the resumption of academic activities in the context of the COVID-19 resurgence.
NANS President, Sunday Asefon, said a task force will be set up at universities around the country on COVID-19.
In a tweet, Asefon said that the government should resolve the question of the COVID-19 resurgence, rather than stop the resumption of schools.
He advised the federal government to reconsider how to curb COVID-19 in its policy.
According to Asefon: “Rather than postpone schools’ resumption, it has become imperative to address the alarming spread of COVID-19 and rising cases of deaths from a position of environmental strategy and human coordination since the lockdown mechanism can no longer be a mitigating option in the face of our economic reality.
"As a result, the National Association of Nigerian Students is committed to establishing Students Task Force Against COVID-19 in each school over student union bodies, while asking the Federal Government to rejig its basic COVID guidelines for the resumption of schools."
