COVID-19: Christian Association of Nigeria reveals when churches might reopen

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) shared its faith that the ban on religious activities in Nigeria will be put to an end by the first Sunday of June.

This was expressed in a declaration signed by Rev Samson Ayokunle, President of CAN, on Wednesday. Ayokunle noted that they have been in talks with the federal government over the measures to be put in place.

part of the statement reads: "We are in discussions with the Federal Government and are drawing the instructions that the Churches will obey in order not to risk the life of any worshiper and to avoid the transmission of COVID-19 as well."

He added: "We expect that, by the end of the first Sunday in June, all our churches will be reopened for congregational worship under the COVID-19 Preventive Regulations. We're briefing the government on this, as I said before.

Ayokunle also urged the government not to dread the re-opening of religious centers because they are more centralized than markets and banks.

Churches and mosques have been closed for more than eight weeks now.
