Oshiomhole frustrated plans to eliminate Obasanjo govt's fuel subsidy – Atiku

Former Peoples Democratic Party vice president and presidential nominee, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, accused the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, of opposing the elimination of fuel subsidies during former President Olusegun Obasanjo 's administration in the 2019 general elections.

Atiku, who recalled that he was leading the negotiations with the Nigerian Labor Congress, NLC, chairman Oshiomhole, said the current chairman of the APC was strongly opposed to him.

Adamawa's Waziri backed an earlier tweet from his spokesman, Paul Ibe, which reads, "The Obasanjo administration embarked on a subsidy removal regime for the avoidance of doubt.

"But the former president of the NLC was frustrated by the efforts. Even at that, the Obasanjo government achieved some pre-exit measures to remove subsidies in 2007. And adding to the argument, Atiku added, "The Obasanjo administration in which I served started a phased withdrawal of subsidies.

"I had the job of negotiating with the then chairman of the NLC and the new chairman of the APC who stood firmly against it."

On Thursday the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) announced the elimination of the price limit on Premium Motor Spirit's (PMS) retail price.

Then in response to that, Atiku had tweeted saying, "FG is finally withdrawing from the fuel subsidy then price-fixing bazaar that had been fraught with corruption and stalling investment," adding that this was something well-meaning Nigerians were asking for and for which he (Atiku) was demonized.

Remember that during Obasanjo's administration, the Adams Oshiomhole-led NLC vehemently opposed the move to withdraw the subsidy and increase the fuel price with series of nationwide protests at the time.
