COVID-19: Nigeria to receive its first shipment of vaccines by February

The Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, said that by the end of February, the country will assess the vaccine for COVID-19. 


A communiqué signed by NGF Chairman Kayode Fayemi reported that attempts are underway with the World Bank to ensure that vaccinations are assessed in Nigeria. 


After a virtual meeting of the state governors, the communique was issued.


Fayemi made the revelations while briefing the forum on his meeting with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Chair of the Board of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) on the roll-out of the vaccines.

Fayemi was said to have told the meeting there is an arrangement for the World Health Organisation (WHO) “to facilitate pooled procurement and the equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines across developing countries.


"Nigeria is one of 12 countries in Africa that have indicated their readiness for the facility among the 92 qualified countries and will receive its first shipment of vaccines by the end of February 2021."
