Police face scrutiny for reissuing Plymouth gunman, Davison his shotgun license
The decision to reissue a shotgun license to a gunman in Plymouth last month has drawn criticism.
Devon and Cornwall Police will be investigated by the police watchdog over Plymouth gunman Jake Davison's possession of a shotgun and a shotgun certificate.
On Thursday evening, Davison, 22, shot and killed his 51-year-old mother Maxine Davison, also known as Maxine Chapman, at a house on Biddick Drive in the city's Keyham area.
He then went outside onto the street and shot and killed Sophie Martyn, three, and her father, Lee Martyn, 43, in front of horrified onlookers.
He then killed Stephen Washington, 59, in a nearby park, before shooting Kate Shepherd, 66, on Henderson Place. She later died at Derriford Hospital.
Davison also shot two local people, a 33-year-old man, and a 53-year-old woman, leaving them with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has announced that it is investigating how Davison obtained a shotgun and a shotgun license after they were taken away from him by police in December following an assault charge in September.
His pistol and license, on the other hand, were returned to him in early July of this year, just a month before the fatal incident.
