COVID-19: The Federal Government has called for cooperation from owners of private institutions of learning ahead of school reopening
Emeka Nwajiuba Minister of State for Education |
Emeka Nwajiuba Minister of State for
Education, announced this during a briefing by the Presidential Task Force on
COVID-19 in Abuja on Wednesday that the government was working on ways to
achieve social isolation and good hygiene practices before schools could be
permitted to reopen.
The FG shut all schools in the country
in March as part of measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
He also identified as false rumors
that the schools would reopen in the country on June 8, saying that the
government could not afford to take any costly risk.
Nwajiuba said, “We are going to
publish a specification on what we expect COVID-19 or post-COVID-19 reopening
to look like. We're not thinking about dealing with COVID-19, but we're
planning to adapt to COVID-19.
"For a country with more than
115,000 primary schools, you will understand that 35.000 of those who are
private must agree to set the same standards in others to allow children to
enter."
Later, the chairman of the PTF, Boss
Mustapha, urged all school administrators to start taking steps to help re-open
the school.
The Secretary to the Government of the
Federation said: "We encourage states, local governments, owners and all
other stakeholders to start taking measures to promote early and safe
re-opening."
