Sports: Chelsea set to sign Manchester United midfielder

Gomes’ agent, Pini Zahavi, is believed to have held talks with Blues transfer chief, Marina Granovskaia.

Chelsea is confident of signing Manchester United starlet, Angel Gomes, the UK Mirror reports.

The 19-year-old's new contract with United comes to an end next month and has turned down a £30,000-per-week bid.

United remain hopeful of tying the middleman down to a new contract, but Gomes is demanding regular first-time football after only six first-time team appearances on the side of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season.

Lampard remains a strong promoter of youth empowerment at Stamford Bridge, with the likes of Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Reece James all benefiting from his philosophy.

Gomes captained England U-19s in the 2018 World Cup and just last month indicated he decided to remain in the United States and win the trophies.
