Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former vice president, has reacted to the federal government's decision to reopen schools by September 2020.

Atiku said he is delighted at the government's decision to reopen learning institutions that were closed as a measure to curb COVID-19's spread.

Yesterday the Federal Government provided some specific guidelines for the reopening of the country's schools. The guidelines announced on Friday by state education minister Emeka Nwajiuba cover four thematic areas.

Other reports have it that the government has consulted extensively and decided on September 5 that schools will reopen and the former VP sees this as a welcome development.

He had warned that the cancelation of WAEC puts Nigeria at risk because the economy of most countries has its foundation in education.

In response to the new development, Atiku tweeted, "I am delighted with reports that @NigeriaGov and WAEC have decided to move the examination date to September 5, 2020."
