Local: Buhari receive COVID-19 herbal cure from Madagascar

President Muhammadu Buhari Saturday at the State House, Abuja, received the Madagascan native formulation against the #Covid-19 pandemic, and reiterated that he will listen to science before allowing traditional or any new medicines to be administered on Nigerians.

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed this in a series of tweets on Saturday  stating that the Madagascar herbal syrup for COVID-19 cure has arrived Nigeria and the President of Nigeria has received it in good fate.

Madagascar has claimed that at least 55 patients have recovered after being treated with the country's herbal remedy for the disease.

The Cable quoted L' Express de Madagascar as saying that the number of COVID-19 patients said to have been "cured" with the drug -- which is bottled as herbal tea -- rose after three recoveries were announced on Saturday.

The 55 patients were among those that were administered COVID-Organics since it was launched in April.

According to Mr. Garba, samples of the native remedy were brought by the President of Guinea Bissau, Umaro Embalo. He noted that President Buhari reiterated that all necessary procedures will be put in place before allowing traditional or any new medicines to be administered on Nigerians.

The meeting also came a day after Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina batted away criticism for promoting a homegrown “cure” for the COVID-19, charging that the west has a condescending attitude towards traditional African medicine.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Friday, announced that five states in the country will also be participating in the ongoing solidarity trial for a treatment for the COVID-19, sponsored by the WHO.

President Buhari expressed Nigeria's commitment to sustain political peace in West Africa and vowed to help the new government in Guinea-Bissau. "I will collaborate and contribute in every possible way," he said.

President Buhari also used the opportunity of the visit to pay tribute to the good work done by the President of the Republic of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou, who is the new Chairman of the Economic Council.
