The government of Ekiti State has
declared the shift in the resumption of pupils and students in graduating
classes from July 20 to August 3 at both private and public schools.
This was made known by Mr Foluso
Daramola, the state commissioner for education, during a media chat in
Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, reports NAN.
Daramola clarified that there was a
virtual meeting in the South-West states where each state had been told to
prepare for the resumption of the school.
"Pupils in primary six and
students in JSS 3, SSS 3 will resume on the new date," he said.
Daramola also urged parents and
guardians to give their children and wards three face-masks each.
According to him, all protective
materials needed to curb COVID-19 spread to public and private schools will be
made available by the Government.
The commissioner said any private
school with two gates will have to close one to monitor movement inside and
outside the campus.
He also said private elementary and
secondary school authorities would have other resources needed to contain the
virus.
Daramola said the government had also
banned private schools from using school buses to move pupils and students to
their separate campuses, claiming the action was in accordance with the policy
for social distancing.
Recall that the resumption was due to
the raging COVID-19 pandemic after four months of government closure.
Governor Kayode Fayemi declared in
June that the schools would reopen to graduate classes on July 20, via a
statewide broadcast.
Fayemi had also said the school
restart would be in phases , starting with students in terminal classes (SSS3,
JSS3 and Primary 6) to prepare for their tests, while other classes would be
slowly absorbed as schools meet all the criteria to accommodate them.
