Most at times, people get confused of these three leaves - Ukazi, Uziza and Utazi leaf. But, it is worthy to note that these leaves are different from each, with different taste, shape and texture.
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver that is caused by a variety of infectious viruses and noninfectious agents leading to a range of health problems, some of which can be fatal.
There are five main strains of the hepatitis virus, referred to as types A, B, C, D and E. While they all cause liver disease, they differ in important ways including modes of transmission, severity of the illness, geographical distribution and prevention methods.
According to WHO, some types of hepatitis are preventable through vaccination.
God has given us a free gift of nature. Hepatitis can also be treated with one of these free gifts.
This post focuses on just Ukazi, and how people suffering from hepatitis can use it for treatment.
English name: Wild Spinach
Botanical name: Gnetum africanum
Igbos call it "Ukazi or Okazi" leaf depending on the State. The Efiks and Ibibos know it as "Afang Leaf".
Ukazi leaf also known as Wild Spinach is tasteless, with oval sharp. It has a tough texture compare to other veggies like, ugu, water leaf, etc but not as hard as bay leaves.
Ukazi leaves have many nutritional properties.
Ukazi leaves have many nutritional properties, like anti-inflammatory properties, anti-oxidants and anti-carcenogenic properties.
They provide the body with carbohydrate, protein, fat, fibre and other minerals like, Iron, calcium, magnesium and Zinc.
They are excellent source of aspartic acid, cysteine, proline and vitamins.
Cysteine and proline are amino acids, important for production of collagen, forming of connective tissues and healing of wounds.
Aspartic acid performs an important function in proper functioning of body cells, hormone production and normal functioning of the nervous system.
Lastly, because of it's fibre richness, it could be use to prevent constipation.
Treatment of Hepatitis using Ukazi Leaf - Wild Spinach
- Get some fresh Ukazi leaves
- Wash is thoroughly with water and salt.
- Eat Ukazi leaf (Wild Spinach) at least three times a week
- OR Slice and pour on cooked rice and eat raw.
